Yes, I am aware of that, but then if one is asked to be "civil" it is usually in reference to being peaceful or well mannered, and kind of the opposite of how one should be in war.

Why ask if you already knew? Odd, but whatever. I certainly get what you're saying about how contradictory the term is, it has a quite delightful irony I think.
