I'm taking a Spanish class, so I'm learning all this stuff right now. Glad it's coming in handy so soon:
Chicano = Mexican-American
Hispanic = A person from a Spanish-speaking country
Latino = refers to people from Catalan, France, Portugal, and Spain. (Those whose cultures and languages are Romantic--derived from the Latin culture).
Americanos = Latin-Americans

Therefore, the terms "Latino" and "Hispanic" both refer to the CULTURE of the people, but NOT to their race. The race is a mixture of peoples of Africa (slaves), Spain (often slaveowners), and indigenous people (often incorrectly refered to as "Indians"). Therefore, the race is, in fact, 1/3 White, just as it is 1/3 Black and 1/3 indigenous blood.
You can also get an accurate, detailed definition of the term "Hispanic" here: http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=Hispanic
Hope this helps somewhat. :)
