That's what happens when White people say they are getting "patriotic." They are not showing only pride for their country, they are showing RACIAL pride as well. When this "patriotic" ferver overtakes them, they not only turn against those whom they perceive to be a direct threat to them (Arabs and/or Muslims in general), but also anyone else who is not a "White American." In the aftermath of 9-11, I've seen much more racist attacks on the 'Net than ever. (So much for the media's theory that illogical racist suspicions and antagonism had DECREASED since 9/11/01 since, according to the media, people wanted to "believe that the person sitting next to them would help them out of a burning tower." Whatever.) In fact, in my experience at least, White racists have been even more antagonistic toward Black people than Arab people. They claim that Black people serve no purpose in this country, because they (we) have not been doing anything for this country (the same ol' stereotype about the "lazy" Black person), but just sit around on welfare (even though the majority of welfare recipients in this country are White) while THEY support us. Obviously, this leads to hatred towards Black people (make that MORE hatred). They start looking for disdainful "outsiders," and, although we (as a people) have been here for centuries, their eyes turn right back around to us--to YOU. Just THEIR way of showing us that NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, WE WILL NEVER BE WELCOME HERE, OR TRULY CONSIDERED TO BE A PART OF THIS COUNTRY....And THAT is why I don't feel this "patriotism." What exactly has this country done for us? Look at all it's done TO us.
