Question: "Have you ever been mistaked for a non-white person by a person classified as white?"
This is a very intresting question, which I think can be broken in half. Meaning the, ("Have you ever been mistaken for a non-white person?") part of the question can/should yield an intresting result.
Let's say for instance the answer is "YES".
Perhaps the next question should be, "How do you know that?"
How is one to know that they were mistaken for a non-white person without being mistreated on the basis of color (funtion) or factors associated with color (funtion)?
see the logic...
If the answer is "NO" then you can reset to the standard critical question, "Are you white" to establish function (color).
As far as the second half of the question goes, (..By a person that considers themselves to be white..) is also useful. It seems to lead to another question like, "How did you know that person condidered themselves to be white?" next, "Did you ask them if they were white?"...
(I suspect it is critical to frame your questions to yield answers that can be either "YES" or "NO")
If the answer is YES, i suggest taking that answer for what it is worth.
IF the answer is NO, I would suggest a line of questioning that will lead back to revealing "white" as a function (color).....
Haven't tried this one on for size yet, so anyone is welcome to use this piece of code and get back with me and let me know what happend....
Just some psuedo-code up for tesing. So please compile away......
